Corporate Vision Best EV Charging Network 2025 Portugal is making significant strides in transitioning to electric mobility, driven by a combination of public policies, tax incentives, and a growing environmental awareness among consumers. Leading the charge in the country’s journey towards a sustainable future is MOBI.E, a company directly shaping this transition through the development and management of Portugal’s Electric Mobility Network (EGME). We heard more from the company’s CEO – Luís Barroso – below, as MOBI.E is named in the Automotive Awards 2025. Since its inception in 2015, MOBI.E has been on a mission to accelerate Portugal’s transition to electric mobility. As an independent and neutral entity, the state-owned company has played an essential role in the national ecosystem, ensuring the management of energetic, financial, and informational flows in the public charging network. At the heart of MOBI.E’s mission is the Mobility Management Platform (MMP), a unique roaming and energy platform that ensures full network interoperability. The digital platform facilitates the connection and integrated management of all public access charging points, in addition to private access points that owners voluntarily choose to connect to the network. The MMP ensures the synchronous flow of all necessary information between the different stakeholders across the system. With a single card or app, electric vehicle users are provided with live information about the availability of the charging infrastructure, ad hoc pricing, and the rates applied by charging point operators. Similarly, charging point operators can access all up to date information relating to charges carried out at their stations. Electricity suppliers for electric mobility can use the MMP to ensure that their cards and apps connect seamlessly with all charging points integrated into the National network. What’s more, regulatory and supervisory entities are equipped with direct access to information about the entire charging infrastructure’s operations, allowing them to act more effectively and in alignment with their responsibilities. “The MMP collects and provides real-time information on availability, consumption, and tariffs, ensuring public visibility and operational reliability,” Luís shared. “The result is a system that is unique in this world, combining technology, neutrality, and total price transparency, where users know how much they are paying for the energy consumed and the charging service for each operation, thus avoiding hidden costs which, as we know, have been appearing in systems offering integrated tariffs.” In a competitive market, MOBI.E stands out for its neutrality, technical innovation, and integrated management capacity. Its system allows hundreds of entities – CPOs, EMSPs, DSOs, and municipalities – to operate in a common ecosystem, with shared rules and fully integrated data. This ecosystem enables MOBI.E to support the “bring your own power” philosophy, guaranteeing a consistent, secure, and transparent charging network that allows users to charge at any point with their own energy contract. The system is supported by an unwavering commitment to reliability; the MMP monitors the status of each charging point in real time and shares this information with operators, suppliers, DSOs, and users alike through the MOBI.Data public portal and various APIs. This operational transparency allows users to plan their journeys with confidence, reducing range anxiety – a critical factor in the mass adoption of electric vehicles – whilst also reducing the operational costs of EMSPs and CPOs. MOBI.E’s approach has proven its efficacy; Portugal now boasts one of the highest rates of electric vehicle adoption in Europe, with the market growing by approximately 50% per year in terms of users, charging sessions, and overall energy consumption. With more than 100 CPOs, 35 EMSPs, and 75 integrated manufacturers, MOBI.E has established itself as a key player in the sustainable mobility sector. The sector continues to evolve at a rapid pace, shaped by technological innovation and the energy system’s expanded integration. MOBI.E aims to remain at the forefront of this transformation, with plans to develop smart charging and plug & charge solutions, bidirectional technologies – such as vehicleto-grid – and predictive models based on artificial intelligence to optimise infrastructure planning and management. Over the years, MOBI.E has developed a unique knowledge and expertise in the electric mobility sector, recognised both in Portugal and abroad. Looking ahead, the company intends to expand its operations to Europe, with a particular focus on Spain – a neighbouring market with five times the potential of Portugal, but with less than half the market share in terms of electric cars. With many Portuguese companies already successfully operating in Spain, this is a natural step for MOBI.E to share its knowledge and experience, supporting the growth of a more integrated and efficient European market. We at Corporate Vision magazine cannot wait to see what is next for MOBI.E, as it continues to build on its recognition as the Best EV Charging Network 2025. Company: MOBI.E., S.A.
