Although a relatively young firm, Exocet has already established itself as a leader of a niche market in which the number of skilled consultants is limited. “I often used to say that there are far more active astronauts than SAP BRIM consultants,” Antoine Tapin, Founder of Exocet, tells us. “We are proud to offer our expertise with an unrivalled level of excellence and experience, and we are recognized as a go-to company by our trusted clients and partners.” Whilst SAP is mostly known for its ERP solutions that are sold all over the world, with thousands of consultants across North America, SAP-BRIM is a very specific solution, which requires highly specialist knowledge. This solution comprises five individual modules: SOM, CI, FiCA, – which are the more typical SAP modules - SAP Convergent Charging (CC) – the core of the solution which is based on very different concepts and technologies and requires a completely different skillset - and Convergent Mediation (CM). Large service vendors often attempt to sell these specialist BRIM implementations at “normal SAP project” rates, before realising they don’t have the skills and are unable to find anyone on the market to do the work at the rate they’ve promised to the client. The results are delays, poor finished products and unhappy clients who often have to restart the whole project. Consequently, Antoine and his team are working hard to educate the SAP community about the importance of differentiating BRIM to other SAP modules, and using specialists such as Exocet Technologies to carry out the work efficiently and effectively. Exocet Technologies also provides training to its clients’ employees on the unique modules, in addition to the firm’s comprehensive services in strategic consultancy, implementation, solution architecture and short-term help. Exocet predominantly serves clients who are major players in the fields of telecoms, transportation, insurance and technology across North America and beyond. For Antoine, Canada was the perfect launchpad for his business in 2018, thanks to its stability and cultural diversity. “I am a relatively new Canadian, having moved from France in 2013, and becoming Canadian in October 2019. I have had the chance to work with people from Canada, US, Romania, Russia, India, China, Israel, and many other countries. The immigration programs have allowed us to bring together talented people from all over the world.” The result is a strong, diverse team who represent the ethical values of the company and who communicate well, which for Antoine is just as crucial as technical ability in any employee: “I think it comes from my French background. What you bring to the water cooler is just as important as what you bring to the meeting room.” However, the team has still got a lot of growing to do, as Antoine has found recruiting fresh IT and computer science graduates in Canada something of a challenge. Now, the firm is focusing on bringing already skilled BRIM consultants to join the team as full-time employees or sub-contractors, as well as hiring interesting new graduates to train up as BRIM consultants. Whilst remote working has made training and integrating new members into the team over the last year tricky, Antoine is optimistic about this next step in Exocet Technologies’ development.
