People need to know what is expected of them, but there also needs to be a pastoral nature where people can feel like their leaders care about how they are feeling. Much of business today is about KPIs, deliverables, and business tasks, but there can be a lack of important questions such as a genuine “how are you”, and “what support do you need?” Rising Vibe suggest that doing one and not the other is simply not going to work for businesses, because they go hand-in-hand with one another in pursuit of success. Rising Vibe is a cultural change consultancy who encourage their clients to embrace emotion in business. How a person feels about something definitely impacts whether or not they engage or disconnect from it, and business is no different in that respect. Social pain can best be summarised as feeling isolated, rejected, excluded, or anything associated with disconnection. The reason social pain is important is because of its neuroscientific connections. Within the brain, the anterior cingulate cortex is the part that will light up when we experience social pain and physical pain, highlighting the importance of emotions in almost every scenario, business or otherwise. Emotions are crucial, and social pain is rooted in almost every issue experienced in a business context. Rising Vibe focuses on minimising social pain, and helping businesses manage their workforce with both a business and a human focus. However, one of the key areas that Rising Vibe has had to work in during 2020 has undoubtedly been the impact of COVID-19 on businesses. Interestingly enough, when speaking with Rising Vibe CEO Lou Banks, it was revealed to us at Corporate Vision Magazine that only 14% of the issues faced by Rising Vibe’s clients since the virus broke out have been directly related to it. A massive 86% of the issues were already there at the businesses, and had simply been magnified, exacerbated by, or blamed on COVID-19. The virus itself seriously impacted Rising Vibe, but Lou was determined not to let it beat the business. Instead, they took some time to refocus, strategize, and change the business model to adapt, and in turn, came up with a three-step programme that would be aimed at supporting its clients. Firstly, Rising Vibe would focus on helping businesses help their people feel better, before then helping them build resilience by learning from what has happened in 2020. Finally, these two prior steps would then enable a business to begin its recovery of culture in the latter part of the year. Ultimately, Rising Vibe is full of people who understand the necessity to have workforces that are encouraged to acknowledge their emotions and feel supported to do so. Rather than blame COVID-19 for everything that has happened this past year, Rising Vibe exists to support and challenge their clients to learn from it.
