Education and Training Awards 2026

Corporate Vision and experiential education. It is a commitment that distinguishes the university in Ontario, and across Canada. At UNF, the gap between classroom and career is by design a narrow one. Work-integrated learning is woven into the architecture of every programme. Students are expected to engage with real problems, real partners, and real consequences long before they cross the convocation stage. “We want our students to graduate with more than a credential”, said David Gray, President and Vice-Chancellor at UNF. “We want them to graduate with a track record.” That philosophy manifests most clearly in UNF’s capstone research projects, which serve as the culminating experience across many of its graduate programmes. Whether in digital media and global communications, data analytics, or management, students develop substantive, industry-facing projects that demonstrate the full scope of their skills. Earlier this spring, UNF launched a digital radio station powered by students. Embedded in the Master of Arts in Digital Media and Global Communications programme, UNF Radio places students at the centre of every decision. It is experiential learning at its most authentic, with every broadcast a deliverable and every show serving as a portfolio piece for students. The opportunity to work alongside partner organisations provides Master of Data analytics (MDA) students experience on live datasets and active business challenges, giving them the kind of applied experience that accelerates careers and builds the professional networks that matter. Employers benefit too. Digital trust software platform Neotrust set out to address a crucial business problem with a team of MDA students: what can be done with the data collected through its platform and what insights can the company learn from it? Students collected the data from various aspects of the business and funnelled it into an easy-to-use dashboard for senior leadership. According to Corey Lanzing, Neotrust’s COO, one immediate tangible difference was Neotrust now being able to use data to identify trends and better understand user behaviour, seasonal behaviour, and market preferences. The students used data visualisation to help turn raw data points into more of a conversation, he said, allowing Neotrust to talk about these insights clearly and in a more engaging way.
