Corporate Vision Issue 5

24 CORPORATE VISION / Issue 5 2018 , SpectrumRehabilitation’s primary focus and service is outpatient physical therapy and physiotherapy. DavidGerstel provides us with an overviewof the services that he and his team offer, andwhat aspects of theirwork have contributed to the company’s success. Returning from Injury Made Simple Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States, with the largest clinic being 13,000 square feet. Almost all our physical therapists have their doctorates or are certified manual therapists. What makes us unique and allows us to provide superior outcomes is our treatment model and evidence-based approach. Each Physical Therapist (PT) is paired with a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) and provides consistent and continuous treatment for our patients. Meaning we can take extra care in the work we do, we also limit the number of patients our teams treat to maximise the quality of care. Our PT/PTA teams treat between 12-25 patients in a 10-hour day, allowing us time to provide a thorough and detailed initial evaluation, customised treatment program, skilled manual/hands-on techniques, and computerized home exercise program. This approach maximizes our outcomes and allows us to progress our patients with the skill and precision our patients deserve. Formed in 2005, Spectrum Rehabilitation has grown into an elite teaching institution, providing clinical education for some of the best PT and PTAschools in the country. We also host international teaching seminars such as the Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS), enhancing our manual therapy techniques. We pride ourselves in providing superior outcomes and our total knee replacements after surgery demonstrate this commitment. Utilizing our expertise in this area (geriatrics and total joints), and the implementation of skilled care and proper progression ensures optimal results. Physical therapists are the musculoskeletal experts and it is our responsibility to ensure maximized function for all of our patients and that is exactly what Spectrum Rehabilitation does. In addition to geriatric conditions, we specialize in all other orthopaedic areas from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet and out to your wrists. Our primary specialty is outpatient orthopaedic physical therapy, but we also specialise in cancer rehab, aquatic physical therapy and sports medicine. Here at Spectrum Rehabilitation, our cancer rehab treatment is performed while a patient is undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. We have documented six internal case studies and used validated outcome measures, like the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale, to minimize fatigue and provide a safe approach to physical activity during treatment. As such, we built our treatment plan on the late Dr. Carole Schneider’s program, a renowned researcher in this field. Dr. Schneider endorsed our approach to cancer rehab and we are the only rehab facility in our area with this distinction. In a six-week period, we 1805CV13 typically reduce fatigue by 80-99% and increase strength by 200- 500%with a one-on-one approach, ensuring maximum outcomes. Aquatic physical therapy is another specialty of ours. In the detailed initial evaluations, the clinical staff determines the best medium, land or water, where our patients will thrive and quickly recover. If the patient has end stage osteoarthritis (OA) or severe back pain and cannot tolerate a gravity environment, we treat them in our heated hydrogen peroxide pools. This buoyant environment allows us to unweight joints, like knees, hips and spine, to effectively strengthen lower extremities and core, improve posture and balance, and maximize activity tolerance. Hydrostatic pressure produces 20% compression on the body, strengthening the core and reducing swelling. We have two side by side pools at 92 o F/33 o C and 85 o F/29 o C, for a total of 77,000 gallons/ 291,500 litres. The cooler pool was designed for pregnancy, MS, and uncontrolled high blood pressure patients. Lastly, our final area of expertise is sports medicine. We treat and train high school, professional and international athletes in our sports medicine capacity, enabling the athletes to rehabilitate and maintain their athletic prowess in a state- of-the-art facility. Examples of our superior treatment/performance methods are highlighted by the athletes we have treated and trained. One was an elite female triathlete, with a hip flexor strain. After successfully treating her, we trained her over a three-month period, reducing her bike time by 15 minutes and improving her strength and endurance in the swimming and running portion. In the past, she consistently ranked in the top 20, but after training with us, she ranked in the top three, joining the US National Team and participating in the World Championships, held in France. In addition, we have treated, trained or created, National champions, Olympians, #1 world obstacle racers, and professional Football and Soccer players. Overall, we are continuously striving for cutting edge knowledge and techniques, resulting in an evidence- based approach to treatment. We are currently developing one of the first evidence-based treatment protocols for stem cell injections. These protocols will focus on the treatment of knees, hips and backs in an aquatic environment and shoulders in a land based environment.
