Each user can start a round in the app and set their preferences for the perfect brew. Cuppa also ran- domly selects who will make the drinks, removing the culture of guilt around ‘whose turn is it this time’. This useful workplace app is the brainchild of Plymouth-based dig- ital agency Elixel and is its first in- house development. Cuppa is a simple but effective way of taking the stress out of the office drink round.” Once people have downloaded the free Cuppa app to their smart phone they can set up their profile with their favourite choice of drink and instructions on how they like it. Whether it’s ice tea with a slice, a latte with half a shot or black coffee strong enough to stand a spoon in, Cuppa saves their preferences or allows them to mix things up with an alternative beverage. When someone decides it’s time for a brew, everyone on the of- fice Cuppa group receives a no- tification and are given a limited amount of time to opt into the round. Once everyone’s requests are in, Cuppa chooses someone to do the honours of making the drinks. “During testing, we have found that rather than remove social in- teraction while making co-workers a round of drinks it actually adds to the social experience,” explains Gavin. “People can easily opt in or out of a round and don’t feel the pressure of having to make everyone’s drinks just because they were the first to suggest put- ting the kettle on.” The team at Elixel will be monitor- ing how people use Cuppa to see what features they can add in the future.
