career success and have the opportunity to network and collaborate with other program participants. The team’s focus on quality, alongside their qualifications and experience, is what sets the organisation apart from others and is central to its success. Alongside its course leaders, the continued support from Make A Change Canada’s community partners, donors, and supporters allows the charity to provide the additional support needed by participants in its programs, including equipment, software, peer tutoring assistance, American Sign Language, etc. Through the ongoing support of partners and donors, the charity can also provide access to educational opportunities to individuals with no other viable option, and as such they are also central to the organisation’s success. In today’s market this work is particularly vital, as currently there is an inadequate supply of workers in the tech sector to meet the growing demand. The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) in its report, The Next Talent Wave: Navigating the Digital Shift – Outlook 2021, reports an increasing demand for ICT workers across all industries. As the technology sector is booming, graduates from university programs, such as Computer Engineering, are being hired directly into high-level and very well-paying positions right out of university. This means employers need to fill certain gaps by hiring workers with entry to intermediate skill levels. Due to this increasing demand, Make A Change Canada’s students are able to draw on their existing education, skills, and experience, such as in research, writing, design, marketing, project management, and computer electronics, and after completing their training through the charity, are entering the booming tech sector successfully. Looking to the future, with the growing shortage of technology workers worldwide, the need for web designers/ developers and marketing and communication professionals for business is expected to remain strong. To meet this need, Make A Change Canada will continue to adapt its programs and materials to ensure learners receive maximum benefit from the opportunity, and employers and businesses throughout Canada can access trained professionals to meet their needs. Specifically, during 2018 and 2019 the team will work actively to expand the reach of Make A Change Canada’s online training programs through the development of new educational, industry, and supporting partnerships, leading to a doubling in the number of new graduates. The charity will also welcome new partnerships with technology firms aiming to diversify their digital talent base.
