14 Corporate Vision - Telecom Awards 2019 , ecta Best European Telecoms Trade Association 2019: May19439 ecta , the European competitive telecommunications association is the pan-European pro- competitive trade association that representsmore than 100 of the leading challenger telecoms operators and digital solutions providers across Europe. To celebrate the organisation’s success in this year’s TelecomAwards we profile it and discuss the events and services it offers to members based throughout the telecomsmarket. For more than two decades, ecta has been supporting the regulatory and commercial interests of telecoms operators, ISPs and equipment manufacturers in pursuit of a fair regulatory environment that allows all electronic communications providers to compete on level terms. Over the years, the organisation’s members have been, and are still to this very day, among the leading innovators in internet services, broadband, business communications, entertainment and mobile. This diverse range of members are united in their belief that competition is the best driver of efficient investments and the greatest enabler of innovation, choice and benefits for citizens and businesses, as well as for the European economy overall. As new technologies and services emerge, policymakers must remain vigilant that competitive choice continues to thrive and that the digital ecosystem functions in a way most beneficial to individuals, private businesses and public institutions. To ensure members are up-to-date with the latest developments in the telecoms market, ecta hosts a range of conferences, with this year’s set to be held between the 10-11th December in the Hotel Le plaza, Brussels. ecta ’s conferences are considered to be some of the primary regulatory and competition events for the European communications sector and attract key officials from Europe’s policy-making institutions; European Commission, Parliament and Ministries plus a range of representatives from European Regulators and Competition authorities. These unique events provide one of the most important policy-debating forums on electronic communications policy for senior executives, finance/strategy directors, legal, regulatory, economics, public affairs personnel and competition specialists from European, US and Asia-Pac incumbent/alternative operators as well as representatives from law firms, consultancies, financial organisations, analysts and researchers primarily focused on the impact of regulation and competition on the communications sector. As well as informing members on the latest policies and regulations, ecta also seeks to give them a voice and help drive the changes they need to success in the modern telecoms market. After all, within the digital ecosystem, policy changes, new rules and laws create both risks and opportunities that often materially affect any organisation’s bottom line and operations, competitive position and business sustainability. Most of these changes are shaped at European level and the policymaking process offers multiple opportunities for stakeholders to provide their input. It is therefore of utmost importance that businesses have their voices represented during the process. Seeking to drive change in the telecoms market and create a space that meets on its member’s needs, ecta regularly builds coalitions among members, other trade association, and public interest, consumer and business organisations to achieve their collective policy goals. Members can contribute towards the organisation’s policy setting activities and ensure that their ideas are heard and potentially incorporated into legislation within the market. Fundamentally, ecta ‘s core advocacy mission is to work with the EUROPEAN INSTITUTIONS and national governments, the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs), the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA), competition authorities, European and national agencies, to ensure that policies and laws enable competition and promote the use and development of electronic communications. This will remain the organisation’s focus as it looks towards a bright and exciting future planning and executing its latest conference and undertaking many additional projects, which it hopes will benefit members across the telecoms space.
