Canadian Business Awards 2020

34 CORPORATE VISION / Canadian Business Awards 2020 , Dec19174 Recognized Leaders in Corporate Interior Design 2020 Theworld of corporate interior design has benefitted hugely fromthe hardwork of the teamat dkstudio Architects Inc. and they have achieved incredible things onmyriad projects. Having been recognized last year as Best International Luxury Retail Design Firm2019, we’re delighted to celebrate their victory this time round and the chance to look a little more deeply at this successful business. Experience is the best teacher, and while formally trained as architects, dkstudio principals Dmytriy Pereklita and Karen Mak had received no formal training in interior design before taking on projects in Hong Kong. Learning on the job was the order of the day and they mastered their trade in the fast-paced, intense Asian environment. Now running their own practice, with offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Hong Kong, they have made the business of design in all areas their passion. Capable of blending the two perspectives, both interior and exterior, to create something truly beautiful. The portfolio that the firm has developed is one of distinguished luxury retail. What dkstudio bring most readily to a project is the ability to collaborate effectively and manage easily. Balancing the demands of design, budget and execution, clients can be assured of a comprehensive and exceptional service that brings even the most challenging of projects. Every project is approached in the strong belief that there is the opportunity to challenge the status quo and invent the possibility of re-invention. dkstudio operates through combining elements both old and new to create something from anybody else. While valuing the importance and tradition of fine craftsmanship, the team here are aware of the fluctuating trends of the 21st Century and how architecture and technology is constantly changing. Finding the link between these two aspects, often meaning the adaptation of new technologies to create rich and thoughtful projects through an economy of means, is the challenge. The firm has been fortunate to have several high-profile clients, proposing ideas that will reinvigorate spaces to create a fresh perspective. These clients have included companies such as Wells Fargo, Louis Vuitton and the Royal Bank of Scotland. The Wells Fargo development was the concept design for its head office in Hyderabad, India. It incorporated unique artefacts that summoned up the essence of the American West in the 1800s and captured some of the colourful history that characterised the bank that helped to open up these opportunities years before. Technology and sustainability were incredibly high priorities, so the plans incorporated state-of-the- art data and presentation equipment and was designed to achieve a LEED Platinum rating. While achieving incredible things in the field of interior design, dkstudio has expanded to explore environmental and social initiatives. Its non-profit App, OnePieceADay, was designed with the intention of encouraging everyone on the planet to pick up one piece of trash a day. By taking a picture each time, the hope was that people would be able to track their progress and build community as appropriate. This careful approach to the future of the planet can be seen in the designs for Prada on Bloor Street in Toronto. This has managed to achieve the prestigious LEED Gold Target. The greatest successes come from those people who are able to handle a variety of perspectives. dkstudio excels in drawing together aspects that can create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. As this business finds itself handling projects of all sorts, from retail to corporate, from interior design to architecture, it means that this is a team that can draw on multiple influences to make their projects truly exceptional.
