Dec20537 Best Metal Recycling Facility - Metro Vancouver Canadian metal recycling facility, West Coast Metal Recycling LLP, specialises in industrial, commercial and corporate accounts, but also provides that personalised service to residential customers. Owner, Terry McHale, tells us more about this unique offering. West Coast Metal Recycling LLP is a unique metal recycling facility located in Langley, British Columbia, just 30 minutes east of Vancouver. Originally established as R&P Metals in 1966, the company underwent a change of ownership in July 2002, at which point it adopted the DBA (doing business as) name of West Coast Metal Recycling to better reflect the core of its business. It then added LLP to the full operating name in 2007 as part of a corporate restructuring plan and has been operating as West Coast Metal Recycling LLP ever since. Over the past 50 years, West Coast Metal has grown from humble beginnings in a barn on Mufford Crescent to its current 3.2-acre site with 52,000 square feet of covered area. Today, it is the largest metal recycler located in Langley and services all the surrounding areas with its fleet of trucks and bins. “Our mission has always been to provide superior service to our customers while always maintaining our safety and environmental standards,” states co-owner Terry McHale, and he continues to explain that staying at the forefront of the industry is key to the firm’s continuing success. “Although we have always chosen to cut our own path, we also look to our industry both locally and internationally for ideas on advancement, equipment, technology and implementation and at the same time taking notice of things that do not work.” This dedication and commitment to clients, plus its cutting-edge approach to the industry, are just a few of the firm’s unique selling points which clearly mark West Coast Metal out as a leader in its field. Currently, the company is the only yard in Western Canada operating the Likufix hydraulic quick connect system on its Liebherr material handlers. This system allows for unparalleled versatility and flexibility of the equipment. Recently, West Coast Metal has switched its fleet of trucks and bins from industry standard cable hoist to the more modern hook- lift system, which allows for faster and safer service to both our customers and drivers. It also boasts a cloud-based customer management and dispatch system that allows real time updates to its fleet of trucks. This, in turn, allows West Coast Metal to adjust truck routes in real time to respond to customer requests as and when they come in. Many of the company’s corporate customers are now looking to ensure that West Coast Metal is environmentally responsible beyond the metal they recycle. In many cases, Terry and the team need to show the end-of-life solutions for by-products such as tires, wood, plastic and hydrocarbons and they firm has, over the years, developed a strong network of partners which allows these requirements and high environmental standards to be satisfied. “We have been described as a “boutique” metal recycling centre due to our unique facility and operations,” enthuses Terry. He was then keen to tell us how, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the facility was visited by buyers from all over the world who consistently commented on how neat, clean and organised the operation was in comparison to others they had visited – a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff, who help to keep everything running smoothly. “Metal recycling is a tough job, with employees required to work in inclement weather and physically handle heavy pieces of metal on a daily basis. We strive to maintain a positive, fun yet safe work atmosphere and we have many employees with more than 10 years of service to attest to our success in this respect.” Being based in Canada provides a strong economic backdrop and a stable political climate that allows West Coast Metal to focus on providing the best daily operations that it can and being just 30 minutes from major ports, allows the company to take advantage of markets anywhere in the world and ensure the best return for customers. The future at West Coast Metal Recycling LLP is fluid and Terry and the team are constantly adapting and changing in response to customer needs and industry trends, continuously explore new options in equipment, technology, and processing and investing and implementing when there is a benefit to both the company and its customers.
