22 Corporate Coaching and Recruitment Awards 2019 , Leading Provider of CVWriting Workshops & Excellence Award in Language Training - Sweden Moving to a new country is a daunting prospect, especially if your partner already has a job role to fit right into. However, Stockholm, and in particular the StockholmAcademic Forum, is pioneering the way by offering a bespoke service to help those finding themselves in such a situation. We caught up withMaria FogelstromKylberg, to find out more about the award- winning organisation. consider ourselves a bit like a start-up so there has been, and still is some trial and error. Our success depends on our staff’s dedication and curiousness and thanks to all the great members of the network who are willing to help us to develop it.” The focus of the network is to help skilled international people to get a job in Stockholm and reach the job market much faster than using traditional methods and offers workshops on CV writing and creating cover letters as well as providing interview training, examining business culture, providing language classes and offering a range of training events and workshops as well as social and professional networking solutions. “We are a pioneer, trying out something completely new,” Maria states. “Human capital is crucial in all successful companies and if you want to recruit the best talent you have to look at a person’s unique situation. Many young couples want to move around and work and discover the world together. But if only one of them gets a job; they will leave pretty fast which results in a terrible loss for companies which lose their staff all the time.” While providing support and ensuring relevance to each and every member, the network also has one huge advantage over others in the industry – the fact that it represents both academia and the city, as well as being a non-governmental organisation, only adds to its already high credibility. SDCN works differently by offering both professional and social opportunities, meaning that it is geared to helping people integrate into Stockholm is one of the world’s leaders in academia and therefore its universities are an obvious and active part of development. Compared to other cities, Stockholm ranks highly in creativity, cutting-edge innovation, economic stability, sustainability, social climate, and levels of education, with its values making it both unique and attractive, nationally and internationally. Stockholm Academic Forum is the apex collaborative body and collective voice of all 18 universities and higher education institutions together with the City of Stockholm. Academia contributes to the society’s success through collaboration, exchange of ideas and learning. Stockholm Academic Forum adopts an innovative approach and facilitates a synergistic coming together of the academic and the workplace. It has recently been awarded the prestigious title of Leading Provider of CV Writing Workshops in Sweden and has also been awarded the Excellence Award in Language Training in Sweden. It was in 2015 Stockholm Academic Forum started Stockholm Dual Career Network (SDCN), which is a network for partners and spouses of international employees working at the network’s affiliated universities and organisations. SDCN helps its members settle in Stockholm whilst looking for work, as well as discovering Swedish culture, and broadening their social and professional networks. “Wow,” exclaims Maria on learning of these recent successes. “We are happy that our work is recognised outside Stockholm and it’s a proof that we are on the right track. We life in a new country, rather than simply finding a job. Whereas similar organisations may just offer lectures, SDCN takes into account its members’ skills to offer guidance that is unique to every individual. Maria says: “SDCN’s activities are developed in partnership with a team of volunteer members which is the SDCN Management Team to ensure relevance for the members’ needs and wishes. “We always involve the members and affiliated organisations in our plans to be sure that we offer relevant activities. This is done by doing surveys and asking for opinions in our closed Facebook group, which has several hundred members.” With regards to the future, Maria hopes that the network is able to work more closely with recruitment companies to help enable further growth and get even more people into work. “For the next year, we will work strategically with companies and show them what we have achieved so far. We are working on business intelligence to show how important it is to take care of the partner as well as the employee.” CONTACT DETAILS Contact: Maria Fogelstrom Kylberg Web Address: www.sdcn.se / www.staforum.se Oct19644 StockholmAcademic Forum
