Education and Training Awards 2021

Best Online Private English & Maths Tuition Provider – UK Since Study Plus Centre opened in 2015, its mission has been to educate Ilford. In an arena where tutoring was already saturated to overflowing, the centre formed to make a difference in access to education. It wanted to bring small ratios and tailored help to individuals and to make kids feel heard and understood as the dynamics of state schools changed drastically. Imitation is the best form of flattery. Study Plus Centre knows its competitors see it as an example of how to evolve their own existing structures, be it their class rations, their website, online engagements, or completely transferring onto the online arena. These are all areas that Study Plus Centre has tapped into over the last five years as it has moved forward, adapted and evolved. It made a positive change to an already existing community that is well versed in the tutoring field. When parents and long-standing clients comment that Study Plus Centre is the place to be and the example to follow, it knows it is doing something right. The education sector has forced schools to become academies, instead of being run under council control. This has created an immense disparity between the students and teachers. A normal class is well over 30 pupils now with no assistant teachers, and teachers are essentially teaching anywhere between 120 and 150 students per week, while also being responsible for their planning, assessing, and creating an open network of communication between the students. The large numbers that the teachers have has increased workload, stress and overall cumulative responsibility, and the teaching sector has essentially become a ship that the majority of new and existing teachers want to jump out of. This leaves a void of students having no central point of communication to express themselves and there is a large lack of individualistic help. There is a major crisis in teacher and student wellbeing. The first and second lockdowns simply exacerbated the circumstances and situations the students were in. The added strain of students being able to hide behind the screen, missing essential learning time, or simply choosing not to participate has left them with nearly two years’ worth of the curriculum missing. Little or no consideration was taken into students’ home environments. As students are slowly coming back into the centre, Study Plus Centre is seeing their thirst for conversation. For normalcy. As a centre, it was doing its best to fill in these gaps of knowledge and missed curriculum with the students in its care. These were very tough times with the overwhelming work that students were completely unfamiliar with, but the centre continued the work and is now looking back, thinking of all the students that tried so hard despite the circumstances. The current GCSE students and year 13s completed their whole qualification under the most unprecedented times this generation has ever seen. Year 6s completely missed out on their whole first year into secondary. KS3 learners became GCSE students. Time moved forward without giving the kids the chance to experience the moments themselves. Essentially, schools as a whole are behind and the Study Plus Centre hopes there will be leniency for those that will be undertaking examinations in the next academic year as the world begins to go back to “normal”. Times are now looking up for Study Plus Centre as it has successfully passed a voluntary Ofsted check with flying colours. The officer of the day very much liked the work ethic that the centre holds, as well as the structures put in place to create a wonderful working environment and atmosphere. In the near future, the centre plans to expand into an exam centre for all the major exam boards, and one day in the future, into its own version of a successful school. Ultimately, it is a positive culture between staff and students at the centre, and this is achieved through listening, understanding and tolerance. If and when issues arise, the appropriate bodies are contacted and the situation is handled with discretion. As a result, those of whom that have worked with Study Plus Centre have enjoyed the environment, the working culture, and are happy to provide the support and help. It provides an holistic experience of learning, making it more enjoyable to students as they navigate their school life, and allowing them to keep track of their learning whilst keeping it fun. The centre very much operates in the same way a traditional school does, with teaching in classes, examples being explored, homework being set, assessments given, and reports being sent to parents. It wanted to bring small ratios and tailored help to individuals and to make kids feel heard and understood as the dynamics of state schools changed drastically.
