She is a graduate of Mary Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with her specialties lying in strategic business and new market development, information security, marketing, and early stage funding. Earlier in her career, Steffens was a director at Sourcefire, where she helped build and grow the business from $250k to an over $35m run rate in just four years. Working closely with the CTO, Steffens helped commercialise the open source Snort technology and build several service offerings around the research initiatives. Prior to joining IOActive, Jennifer went to Seattle to help the struggling start-up GraniteEdge reinvent itself. She spearheaded initiatives to restructure the company, and developed a product strategy to drive early market penetration that ultimately secured two additional rounds of funding. With over 15 years of industry experience, Steffens has also held senior management positions at Ubizen, NFR Security, and StillSecure. Jennifer is an active member of the Executive Women’s Forum, the Information Security Systems Association and the Open Web Application Security Project. Lauded by Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Information Security Magazine, and many more, she received SC Magazine’s Reboot Leadership Award for Top Management in 2017 and CV Magazine’s IT Security CEO of the Year 2018. She serves as a judge for the TechTrailblazers and DUO Women in Security Awards and is a frequent speaker at events around the world. Indeed, it’s easy to see how Jennifer Steffens has achieved such success within the 2022 Corporate Excellence Awards with all the experience, expertise and recognition she has.
