CORPORATE VISION / Issue 6 2018 27 , Liezl Thom is a freelance journalist, bestselling author, radio personality, talk showhost, voice over artist, documentary producer and a qualified life coach specialising in personal transformation, personal leadership, spiritual growth and teen coaching. We caught up with Liezl as we looked to gain further insight into her exceptional career. A Truly Wonderful Coach Liezl was trained in the coaching model of internationally acclaimed coach and author Martha Beck who has recommended Liezl in particular for her work with teenagers: “Being an overgrown kid herself (albeit a very wise and experienced one), Liezl Thom has huge compassion and understanding for the challenges faced by young people. Her blend of youthful perspective and time- tested knowledge makes her a truly wonderful coach for people just beginning to find their place in the world. Liezl helps the youth make sense of their lives, find their own truth, and thrive.” Martha Beck. Liezl uses her journalistic background, no-nonsense approach and intuitive nature to ask piercing questions to help her clients identify their area of least satisfaction that much faster. Using a combination of techniques and tools, she guides them to find their own answers. She does not offer advice though, because, she says: “People don’t want advice. Very often, when they’re asking you for advice, they’ve already made up their minds about what they want to do and they want someone to validate their decision. If your opinion doesn’t validate their pre-existing ideas, they will merely shrug it off. At other times, when a person is really stuck and cannot see the wood for the trees, giving them your solution won’t serve them either because they have to find their own. Life is an exam – but we’ve all been given different exam papers.” A firm believer that every person on this planet is here for a reason and has a contribution to make, Liezl also works with reformed inmates to find their purpose and place in society. As part of their reintegration into the communities in which they’ve committed, she guides them to find ways in which they can restore their own dignity and earn back trust. “We’re all on this planet to learn life’s lessons and to be of service. How we serve depends on our unique talents. We all want to live a life of purpose – but finding our purpose is one of the biggest hurdles in living our own truth. Once we find our purpose and align our hearts and heads with that purpose, our lives become meaningful. I’m not saying it will be smooth sailing all the way – but once we connect with our purpose and allow it to navigate our path, even the storms of life become easier to navigate. Martha Beck calls this your inner ‘North Star’ – I, as a person living in the Southern Hemisphere, like to think of it as your own personal ‘Southern Cross’.” 1806CV13 Contact: Liezl Thom Website: www.liezlthom.com
