Perhaps one of the best examples of Rack-Master’s expertise within this industry is the current project undertaken for Torque, at Wakefield Europort. Rack-Master have dealt with Torque for a number of years, working with the firm to help provide the infrastructure for its rapidly- expanding warehousing and logistics operation. Torque is a national and international end-to-end supply chain specialist, providing bespoke solutions at scale to the fashion and retail industry. From its modest beginnings in Bramley, Yorkshire, in 1991, Torque has since grown to operate in seven locations with eight warehouses and 1200 employees. It provides clients with a range of services which include multichannel fulfilment, storage, handling and distribution including UK transport via Torque’s own fleet, superior freight and customs solutions, and an extensive range of pre-retail services. These are all supported by a dedicated, passionate, and experienced team including an in-house technical team. In April of 2019, Torque managed to secure a new 176,000 sq. ft distribution centre at Wakefield Europort, Castleford. With an ever-expanding customer base, it quickly became apparent just how essential it was that the firm add new warehousing capacity to meet the demands of the brands it was working in partnership with. As demand continued to grow, Torque was keen to take full advantage of the space at this new site through the addition of mezzanines and high-bay racking. That is where Rack-Master came in. Having partnered on several projects in the past, each party jumped at the chance to work together again on the exciting development of the Castleford site. The initial requirement was for circa 6,000 pallets in a very narrow aisle configuration. Designed around an existing wire guidance system and existing building steelwork, this initial requirement was successfully installed in June 2019, just two months after Torque had first secured the site itself. In January of 2020, more work began on the next project: a circa 300,000 sq. ft of mezzanine flooring over three raised levels, complete with piling to strengthen the floor, fire protection by means of cladding and sprinklers, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm, spiral chutes, and shelving. The floor is being built between two separate chambers, with access at all mezzanine levels via fire-linked shutters and pedestrian fire doors. The project required no small amount of in-depth discussion with the local fire authority to ensure total compliance and practicality. The project was constructed in two separate halves. Each chamber was designed, and built to completion in sequence to minimize the temporary loss of capacity on site. With full time, in house site management, Rack- Master and Torque kept to budget and to timelines with complete collaboration and support from the firm and their extremely professional management team. Another prime example of Rack-Master’s award-winning expertise, was their involvement with MDA’s new facility at the Frontier Park development in Blackburn. As a renowned UK market leader, MDA is dedicated to the storage, collation/preparation and delivery of marketing materials, as well as core products for many of the world’s leading brands and retailers. When MDA needed additional storage and processing space for their expanding customer base, they turned to Rack-Master for their help to design the new facility. Incorporated in 2009, Rack-Master is the brainchild of owner Adam Ainsworth. Having worked for several other storage solution providers for more than a decade, Mr Ainsworth struck out on his own and began to utilise the skills he had developed during his time in the industry.
