Not only is it an issue facing humanity, but it is also affecting the industry ESB operates within. When discussing how the team at ESB are working together to overcome these obstacles, Éilish explains how the ambition of their Brighter Future Strategy is to lead the transition to a low-carbon energy future based on clean, reliable and affordable electricity. “It sets out a path to achieve this ambition in a way that will also ensure that ESB continues to grow as a successful business, whilst maintaining the financial strength to invest in a low-carbon future at the necessary pace and scale. Alongside this, it also recognises the potential for new business growth arising from the transition.” For instance, ESB is collaborating with a number of international and domestic start-ups with a focus on renewable energy, maximising generation assets and autonomous trading. In additional ESB are working with the community of Dingle in Co Kerry trialling new technologies by deploying electrified heat, battery storage, solar PV and smart network devices in over 100 locations. This will help us to under-stand how evolving technologies will interact on the electricity network of the future and how, in turn, the local community can best benefit from these technologies.
