Having previously worked as a Specialist Educational Needs and Trauma-informed teacher, David now serves as an inclusion and wellbeing consultant and trainer, both on a self-employed basis and through his roles at EMBED Inclusion and the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion. David works closely with his clients, aiming to help them achieve their inclusion and wellbeing goals. To do this, he delivers training on topics like neurodiversity in the workplace, LGBTQ+ awareness and allyship, conscious inclusion, inclusive leadership and recruitment, disability confident practice, and inclusive language and accessible communication. Whether his clients are looking to implement a relatively small strategy or drive a comprehensive effort within their organisation, David sits down with them, listens to their requests, and works to prepare them a customised plan. He understands that every client is unique, so he tailors the way in which he delivers his services to fit their individual needs and organisational goals. Over the years, David has worked with the British Transport Police, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service, and the British Library on projects that aimed to encourage working supportively with neurodivergent colleagues and clients. In addition, he has assisted Bristol-Myers Squibb, bulk, Capgemini, Cargill, Clear Score, Enfield Council, Ericsson, Maven, Square Trade Ltd, SuperDry, and the University of Glasgow with the development of their inclusion agendas for LGBTQ+ employees. Furthermore, David has delivered talks and training related to conscious inclusion and inclusive communication for organisations such as Border Force, HATS Group, Health Recovery Solutions, Tisski, University of Reading, and the NHS. He has also provided training to PG Recruitment with the goal of improving the management team’s understanding of mental health and wellbeing in order to enhance the company’s recruitment and retention rates. Many clients have left David positive reviews for the services he has provided them with in the past. For example, one states, “David works on projects with tenacious rigour. He is detail orientated and always seeks to get the best for the client and the situation. If you are looking for someone who can enlighten your managers on Equality work, then David is your man.” In the work he does, David aims to promote the fact that every person has the right to reach their full potential, both personally and professionally. He also hopes to help people live authentically by encouraging them to believe in themselves as individuals and not to accept the judgements and limitations that others impose on them. To this end, David founded the Give ‘em Hope Campaign in 2011 with the goal of spreading positivity and encouragement to those who need it most. As part of this, people were invited to submit videos and written testimonies, inspiring others to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve their goals regardless of their circumstances. For his work, David has won a number of prestigious awards throughout his career. For example, in 2014, he was awarded a Vodafone World of Difference Award in 2012 as well as a National Diversity Award in 2014. Later, in 2015, he was shortlisted for a European Diversity Award and won an Excellence in Diversity Award. In 2017, he also went on to be shortlisted for the Diversity Champion Award: Education Sector at The Excellence in Diversity Awards. Impressively, David’s track record of success has not yet come to an end, even after more than 25 years in his field. This year, in 2023, he is proud to have been awarded Most Dedicated Inclusivity Trainer in our Education and Training Awards. Currently, David is anticipating the publication of his book, ‘Never Blend In’, which is an accessible and powerful toolkit for living authentically, providing readers with candid stories and wise words that aim to encourage, inspire, uplift, and give hope. Whilst this ground-breaking book is primarily aimed at young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning people, it is also of great value to educators, parents, families, and mental health professionals seeking insight into the LGBTQ+ experience. We are thrilled to congratulate David Equality Hull-Watters on his success in the Education and Training Awards 2023 and wish him the best of luck in all his endeavours.
